International Airports: Security is Always the Top Priority

Immediately after the September 11 attacks in 2001 where terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed them into targets areas on the east coast, airports implemented stricter rules and security policies. Most of these policies are still observed and effective today. Airports seem to always be on heightened alert when it comes to ensuring the security and safety of flights. This is especially true in international airports.

These security measures, although very helpful and necessary, can sometimes cause inconvenience. Waiting in line for hours and passing through several inspections can ruin a passenger's day and mood before he or she boards the plane. To save yourself from all the drama, here are some things you have to remember about international airports.

International airports tend to be much stricter when it comes to security. Some airports forbid liquid items in carry-on bags. Whether it's shampoo, toothpaste or gels, it cannot be with you inside the plane. You will have to get rid of it. Yes, even when it's just your good old coffee drink. There are plenty of drinks available on board so you don't have to worry about getting thirsty during the flight. Infant's milk is only allowed when you have your baby with you.

No pills or any medicines are allowed on board. If you really need your medications with you all the time, make sure to bring your doctor's prescription.

Remember that you will be going through several security checkpoints. Wear shoes that you can easily slip on and off. Airports usually require passengers to take off their shoes for security purposes. Also, avoid wearing clothes with metal grommets or huge metal zippers, or belts with metal. You can avoid unnecessary delays by easily passing through metal detectors.

Always make sure that you have your boarding pass or passport with you. Security personnel will ask for them every step of the way. Do not lose these documents on board or you'll be deported back to your country even before you can enter the country you are going to visit.
