International Flights: Before the Takeoff

International travel can be very exciting and exhausting at the same time, especially if it's your first time traveling abroad. Flying to another country opens a number of possibilities --- making friends with the locals, seeing beautiful places, and experiencing new activities. However, there are several things you have to take into consideration so you can enjoy your international flight.

Arrive at the airport hours before your scheduled flight. Nowadays, airport officials do a lot of safety and security measures to ensure that nothing goes wrong during the flight. It takes a long time for a passenger to get to the gate with all the inspections. It's better to have to kill a lot of time at the airport than not to board your plane. To make it easier for everyone, always make sure that you have your boarding pass, passport and other documents with you. Do not put them in a bag where it could take you forever to retrieve them. Do not lose these documents and make sure that is very convenient for you to take them out when asked by any airport official.

Speaking of security, know the policies of the airport and the airlines before boarding. Some countries like the UK implement stricter security measures. To save yourself from the inconvenience, make sure that you only carry your passport and other documents as hand baggage. These must be carried in transparent or see-through plastic bags. If you need medicines with you all the time, make sure you have your prescription with you. Do not bring liquids. The airlines offer drinks on board so you don't have to worry about getting thirsty during the flight. If you have a baby, milk and juices are allowed as long as you have your child with you. Even these liquids will be checked. Do not bring battery-powered or electrical items such as mobile phones and laptops. If you really need them, you will have to check them in. They cannot be carried as hand baggage.

It is also wise to learn about the culture of the country you are going to visit before your flight. Some cultures do not allow certain items. Prepare for the country's climate and weather patterns. Make sure you know what currency is used in that country. Be aware of books, publications, and other items that are banned in that country so you won't have any problems upon arrival.
