If you drive a car and you travel frequently, you will surely benefit from having an international driver's license. With that, you can drive your own or a rented car anywhere you are without any trouble with authorities. However, there are some common misconceptions about it.

There are still a lot of people who do not understand full what an international driver's license is for. Many may believe that this is a replacement for their local driver's license, but it is really not. Simply put, an international driver's license is not a exactly a license that allows you to drive a vehicle anywhere.

You may see a lot of advertisements on the Internet or received spam in your email about services that will get you one, even if you have a revoked driver's license for a few to several hundred dollars. Those are not true and is more likely to be a scam get your hard-earned money from you.

An international driver's license is not a replacement of your local driver's license, it is merely a translation of your local license to an international standard. In other words, you will still be needing a valid driver's license when you are going to apply for an international one.
